Route 66: Rainbow Bridge

One of the great landmarks on Route 66 is the Rainbow Bridge. It is also referred to as the Brush Creek Bridge. It is located on a small section of Route 66 in Kansas near Baxter Springs. This structure of wonder is the last of its kind. It is the only fixed Marsh Rainbow Arch bridge left on Route 66 in Kansas. The bridge was designed by James Barney in the early 1900’s. The bridge design uses two primary arches between abutments and a concrete banister railing that runs parallel with the deck of the bridge. The Rainbow Bridge on Route 66 was built in 1923 and was used as a primary source of travel up until the 1960’s.

In 1983 The Brush Creek Bridge (Rainbow Bridge) was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This in turn helped to preserve and protect the Rainbow Bridge. Make the Rainbow Bridge one of the stops on your travels along historic Route 66. You won’t be disappointed by this amazing piece of engineering history.
